Trivium Pay Tribute To Late Power Trip Singer Riley Gale
Trivium have honoured the late Riley Gale with a cover of a classic Power Trip track during a live-streamed Twitch performance.
Gale, formerly the lead singer of the Texas thrash metal band, recently passed away at just 34 years of age.
90 minutes into Trivium’s set, which saw them perform 16 songs including a bunch of deep cuts, frontman Matt Heafy paused to honour Gale.
“Talking about love and talking about good times, we had the pleasure of touring with Power Trip on one of our greatest U.K./European tours and that tour was absolutely unbelievable.”
“All of us band and crew got to know Riley quite a bit,” he continued. “Riley recently passed away at the age of 34 a couple days ago.
“I feel like Power Trip was one of the very few bands that weren’t ‘newer’ but they were newer to the world scene and I think they had a better shot of becoming one of the biggest metal/crossover/hardcore bands on the planet.”
Upon announcing his death, Power Trip did not reveal a cause, but encouraged fans to donate to Dallas Hope Charities.
“I know that those guys can still pull it together and I hope they can still pull it together and do what they do. Riley will be greatly missed,” Heafy went on.
“Everyone remembers him as being an undeniably incredible frontman which he was with a voice that sounded like no one else. I think Power Trip was doing something very different that other people weren’t doing and it was amazing they were able to bring so many fans of so many different genres into one band.
“So we want to pay tribute here and play a little song, we hope we do it a little bit of justice,” he said, before performing ‘Executioner’s Tax (Swing of the Axe)’ by Trivium.

AC/DC’s Brian Johnson Says We Took Live Music For Granted Before COVID-19
AC/DC singer Brian Johnson is missing live music, big time, and reckons we all probably took going to gigs for granted before the pandemic hit.
Chatting with Joe Walsh’s Old Fashioned Rock N’ Roll Radio Show, Johnson spoke about how he’s been going during the coronavirus crisis.
“I think it’s made us realise how much we took for granted,” he said.
“When you’ve gone to a gig or something and you hear somebody hit that guitar, like your good self, and just knock the snot out of it and you just get that shiver down your back.
“Now when you hear a band start up, hearing the live music — I think that’s a big miss for everybody.”
The singer hasn’t performed with AC/DC since he departed mid-tour in 2016 amid revelations he was suffering from hearing loss. He was replaced on that tour by Axl Rose.
Before the pandemic hit, it was rumoured that Johnson would be rejoining AC/DC for a stadium tour around the world.
The singer had reportedly been working on a new album with the band, and was set to return to the stage fitted with a special device to prevent further hearing loss.
“Brian has been working on special in-ears made for his performances so that he can continue to perform without causing any more damage to his hearing than he already has,” said a source.

BTS Becomes First K-Pop Act To Top The American Singles Chart
BTS is the first K-pop group to land a chart-topping single in America, with their new record-breaking English language single ‘Dynamite’.
While K-pop acts like BTS and BLACKPINK have been massive globally for several years, no South Korean artist had ever achieved a #1 Billboard Hot 100 single before now.
The chart blends all-genre US streaming, radio airplay and sales data.
The closest a South Korean had gone to the top of the American chart was when PSY made it to #2 with 2012 one-hit-wonder ‘Gangnam Style’.
Forbes has already called the achievement a “paradigm shift for the way Western listeners regard non-Western artists”.
‘Dynamite’ has smashed all sorts of records since it dropped on August 21st.
They started out by reclaiming a record they previously had for the most YouTube views in a 24-hour period, and has since had the biggest digital dales week since Taylor Swift’s ‘Look What You Made Me Do’ in 2017.
‘Dynamite’ sits at #2 on the Global Spotify Chart and #7 on the Apple Music Global Top 100 at the time of writing.
The BTS track debuted at #2 on the ARIA Singles Chart in Australia and could hit the top of the chart in its second week.

‘Bill & Ted Face The Music’ Soundtrack Features New Music From Mastodon, Lamb of God, Weezer And More
Bill & Ted Face the Music will start showing in Australian cinemas next week – but before it does, you can stream its absolutely stacked official soundtrack right here, right now.
The album includes a new song from Mastodon titled ‘Rufus Lives’ – a nod to George Carlin’s character in the first two films – alongside fresh contributions from Lamb of God, Weezer, FIDLAR, Cold War Kids and more. As you may recall, Weezer’s track ‘Beginning of the End (Wyld Stallyns Edit)’ arrived earlier this month as the soundtrack’s lead single.
Bill and Ted’s fictional band Wyld Stallyns also appear on the soundtrack – their song ‘Face the Music’ features Animals As Leaders guitarist Tosin Abasi.
Bill & Ted Face the Music is the third instalment in the franchise, arriving almost three decades after we last saw Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter portray the titular heroes in 1991’s Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.
The film sees Winter and Reeves reprise their respective, with the plot revolving around the pair traveling to the future in order to steal a song from themselves that will unite the world. William Sadler returns to his role as Death, while newcomers Samara Weaving, Brigette Lundy-Paine and Kid Cudi also feature.
Listen to Mastodon’s contribution to the soundtrack below.

Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker Has Purchased The Studio Where ‘Innerspeaker’ Was Recorded
Tame Impala bandleader Kevin Parker has purchased the Western Australian recording studio where he recorded the psych-rock project’s debut album Innerspeaker, and also worked on 2015’s Currents.
As Property Observer reports, Parker bought the Yallingup property – known as Wave House – for $2.75 million, down from its original asking price of $3.7 million. Built in the 1980s by US music producer Ken Eichenberg, it’s been a vital space for artists for decades, and its studio space has also been utilised by the likes of The Beastie Boys and Fatboy Slim.
256 kilometres south of Perth, the studio and residential property sits on a 50-acre block of land that features views of the Indian Ocean and includes a limestone amphitheatre that can fit up to 300 people.
Tame Impala’s latest record, The Slow Rush, arrived back in February of this year, recorded in Los Angeles along with Parker’s home studio in Fremantle. In our review, we said album four saw the band “no longer immersed in the swirling technicolour of psychedelic rock, but instead staying afloat atop the controlled chaos of maximalist pop – with a Kevin Parker twist, of course.”
Last week, Parker and bandmates Jay Watson and Dominic Simper performed a socially-distanced NPR Tiny Desk Concert, performing The Slow Rush‘s ‘Breathe Deeper’ and ‘Is It True’ along with 2019 single ‘Patience’.
