Chippendale venue Freda’s has been given the go-ahead by Liquor & Gaming NSW to trade through til 4am on Fridays and Saturdays — and til 2am the rest of the week — effective immediately.
Owner of Freda’s, David Abram hailed the news as a big win for Sydney’s nightlife.
“We have seen Sydney’s nightlife go through a sad and painful decline over the last 6 years. However, this is an important turning point in Sydney reaching its immense potential as a late-night city,” he said.
“We believe that safe, diverse, intelligent, and cultured spaces for like-minded people to connect and create are an essential part of a city’s heartbeat. We are grateful that both City of Sydney, and ILGR have supported our application for extended trade, and we can further our commitment to showcasing the incredible arts, culture and music the city has to offer.”
Freda’s has been an integral part of Sydney’s live music scene since 2011 and is a much-loved venue for both emerging and established artists and fans alike.
The bar will take part in this year’s Vivid music & light festival for the 5th year in a row, kicking off on Friday, 24th May as part of the X|Cellerate program, supported by City of Sydney and Destination NSW.
Artists popping up throughout the events are: DJ Tim Sweeney, Japans AZ, Noise in My Head, Toni Yotzi, Wax’o Paradiso, and many more.
Despite the extended hours being effective immediately, Freda’s will also celebrate the good news with an official launch party next Friday, 10th May.
Chalk this one up in Sydney’s rare WIN COLUMN fam.
