New top story from Time: 7-Year-Old Girl in ‘Critical Condition’ After Being Shot While Trick-or-Treating in Chicago
(CHICAGO) — A 7-year-old girl out trick-or-treating in a bumblebee outfit was critically injured Thursday night during a shooting on Chicago’s West Side.
Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford says the girl was shot in the lower neck area Thursday and was taken by paramedics to Stroger Hospital. Chicago police say a 30-year-old man was shot in the left hand and taken to a nearby hospital in good condition.
The Chicago Tribune reported that police said the girl was dressed as a bumblebee. The girl’s father screamed, “My little girl’s been shot,” according to Lalia Lara, who works in a cellphone store.
Lara told the newspaper she held the girl’s hand and pressed against her chest to stop the bleeding. “She was looking at me, and I was calling her name, ” Lara said. “I have kids — I would go crazy if something happened to my kids.”
Authorities say the man and girl were walking along a street in the Little Village neighborhood when a man in a group of males drew a gun and fired at the victims.
In a tweet, Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says the girl, who was out with her family for Halloween, is believed to be an unintended victim.

RL Grime has dropped his annual Halloween mix so it truly is a Happy Halloween folks. It’s his eighth annual mix, but RL Grime has done it again. He’s lived up to tradition and dropped an absolute fire mix for the holiday.
Celebrity chef and Mayor of Flavour Town, Guy Fieri deems it a “spicy mix” in the introduction, and he’s not wrong. He says, “I’m gonna have to call the Flavour Town fire department.”
The hour of spooky trap features interludes from Goosebumps author, R. L. Stine and Vine star Foushee along with plenty of Blair Witch Project samples.
RL Grime founded his own record label, Sable Valley earlier this year. He’s used the mix as an opportunity to feature some of his signed artists.
The mix is full of unreleased music marrying trap bangers with hip hop snippets. Have a listen down below.
The trap lord is set to come down to Australia next month. He’ll be performing at Perth’s Origin Fields, Sydney’s Field Day, and Brisbane’s Wildlands.

Watch: Northlane Crush The Vines’ ‘Get Free’ For Like A Version
Sydney heavy band, Northlane took on fellow Sydney band, The Vines for this week’s Like a Version.
They kept all the original goodness of the 2002 tune, ‘Get Free’, making sure to preserve all the desperation and pace that makes the track what it is. Still, they made it their own, distorting the guitars a little more, while frontman, Marcus Bridge screams the studio down and it’s so. bloody. good.
It’s heavier punch to The Vines we never knew we needed.
Northlane also performed their own ‘4D’ off of their now two-month-old album Alien.
Alien has earned Northlane an ARIA nomination for Best Hard Rock/Heavy Metal Album.
Northlane has also been announced on the 2020 UNIFY Gathering lineup.
Watch both performances below.

New top story from Time: Hundreds of Koalas Feared Dead in Australian Wildfires
(CANBERRA, Australia) — Conservationists fear hundreds of koalas have perished in wildfires that have razed prime habitat on Australia’s east coast.
Port Macquarie Koala Hospital President Sue Ashton said she hoped wildlife carers would be allowed to begin their search of the fire zone for survivors on Thursday. The fire was started by a lightning strike on Friday in a forest in New South Wales state, 300 kilometers (190 miles) north of Sydney, and has since burnt 2,000 hectares (4,900 acres).
Two-thirds of that area was koala habitat, Ashton said.
“If we look at a 50% survival rate, that’s around about 350 koalas and that’s absolutely devastating,” Ashton said of the death toll. “We’re hoping it’s not as bad as that, but because of the intensity of the fire and the way koalas behave during fire, we’re not holding out too much hope,” she added.
Koalas climb high into trees during wildfires and survive if the fire front passes quickly below them.
The koala colony was particularly heathy and genetically diverse, Ashton said. Koalas prefer coastal forests, which are being cleared for suburban expansion. Increasingly isolated koala colonies have become inbred and diseased.
Australia’s wildfire season has made a particularly early and devastating start in the southern hemisphere spring due to above-average temperatures and below-average rainfall that has left much of the east coast in drought.

New top story from Time: Yes, Mitt Romney’s Grandson’s Dressed as ‘Pierre Delecto’ For Halloween
Political enthusiasts had some scary-good Halloween costumes this year, but the most “delectable” among them might have been that of Sen. Mitt Romney’s grandson, Thomas, who dressed as Pierre Delecto.
Romney’s eldest son, Tagg Romney, took to Twitter Thursday morning with pictures of his son Thomas’s version of the look. The costume included a tuxedo, beret, mustache, sunglasses and a name-tag that read “Pierre Delecto” directly underneath a crossed-out “Mitt Romney.”
Thomas as #PierreDelecto and Joe as Nacho. World beware. pic.twitter.com/3SstDeyvwb
— Tagg Romney (@tromney) October 31, 2019
Pierre Delecto was the name of the ‘private’ Twitter account Romney had, for years, been using for social media snooping and self-promotion, before it was recently uncovered by Slate reporter Ashley Feinberg. After the Utah Republican dropped hints about the account’s existence to the Atlantic’s McKay Coppins, Feinberg was able to identify the alias by parsing through the accounts Delecto followed (specifically, Romney family members with only a small Twitter presence themselves), as well as how often the account said nice things about Romney.
Sen. Romney confirmed the account was his soon after Slate‘s exposé. “C’est moi,” he told Coppins.
He seemed to find the costume as funny as the rest of the Internet did. “Out of the will!” Romney tweeted about Thomas in jest.
Great costumes! Thomas, #OutOfTheWill! https://t.co/ta6aJqfYq3

As President Donald Trump is ensnared in a formal impeachment inquiry, and a record number of Democrats seek their party’s nomination for the 2020 presidential election, there were plenty of costume alternatives for those outside of the Romney bloodline: a Sen. Kamala Harris campaign staffer dressed as her 2020 rival Sen. Cory Booker, many donned whistles to represent the government employee who filed an anonymous complaint that jumpstarted Trump’s impeachment woes, and one Pete Buttigieg staffer used a red peacoat and gavel to impersonate House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

PREMIERE: Jackson Carroll’s ‘Happy Man’ Is A Bright, Vibrant Folk Pop Earworm
Up until this point, singer-songwriter Jackson Carroll’s music has largely consisted of sauntering, blues-influenced ballads, inspired by the likes of Jeff Buckley and Matt Corby.
On latest single ‘Happyman’, Carroll turns up the pace, delivering an up-beat slice of folk-tinged pop that’s bright and infectious to boot. It’s got a summery, sun-drenched feel – particularly appropriate as we head into the warmer months.
“I think ‘Happyman’ is kind of an anomaly in my catalogue. It’s the most overtly happy song, the most hopeful by far,” says Carroll about his latest track.
“That’s not to say that some of the other tracks aren’t happy, but there’s always a hint of melancholy. Happyman has none of that. It is more of a song about hope than happiness. It’s about trying to get to a happy place, to become a happy person. It’s more about desire and looking for desire in your immediate surroundings, looking for desire in other people.”
‘Happyman’ comes from Carroll’s forthcoming EP Name It After Me, and comes ahead of a slew of national tour dates over the summer, including hometown launch shows for both ‘Happyman’ and the EP – the first of which takes place tomorrow night at the Lord Glastone Hotel.

Flume Opens Up About That Burning Man Set: “I Didn’t Expect It To Go Viral, Honestly”
Unless you’ve been living offline since September, you may recall that homegrown producer Harley Streten – better known as Flume – made quite the little viral sensation when video of him, ahem, eating ass at his Burning Man set hit social media and generally broke the internet.
As the online hype ensued, the ‘Never Be Like You’ producer stayed relatively quiet – only really responding with an Instagram selfie showing him snacking on a peach with the caption “It was a joke (sorry mum).”
Now, in a new interview with dance music outlet Mixmag, Streten has given some insight into the aftermath of the video, and reflected on what it’s like to go viral for something entirely unrelated to your music.
“I have to ask about the viral video from Burning Man,” asks interviewer Devyn White at the end of the interview.
“What was it like going viral for something like that and what was it like for you to address it head-on with such grace?”
In response, ol’ Flume was quite open about the response, discussing the initial stress at waking up to the chaos.
“It was kind of crazy. I didn’t expect it to go viral honestly. But, I woke up one morning to thousands of tweets and chaos,” says Streten.
“At first, I was kind of stressed out about it because I don’t know. I looked at a graph actually and it was the analytics of Google. The first record and it had a little spike on the graph. The second record, a little slightly higher. The mixtape, a little spike. Then, the eating ass at Burning Man and it was just like to the top of the graph.
“So, it’s the most Googled I’ve ever been, and it was about none of the music. But, I think it was funny. It’s definitely the most press I’ve ever gotten. It’s fine, I don’t mind. I think it’s hilarious.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Streten discusses genre classifications (“I’m happy to be called EDM. I think it was a bit of a dirty word when it first came out, but it seems like anything electronic these days is labeled EDM”) and the future of electronic music as technology moves forward.
“As new technology progresses, you’re literally able to make new sounds that have never existed in the history of mankind before. For me, the most exciting frontier in music in general is on a computer just because you can create literal new sounds that have never, ever existed. I think electronic music gets to enjoy that about it. So, that’s for me, the most exciting part of electronic music.”
Read the whole interview here.
Flume released latest single, the Vera Blue-featuring ‘Rushing Back’, last month.
