The Veronicas’ Lisa Origliasso Has Opened Up About Her “Heartbreaking” Ectopic Pregnancy

Lisa Origliasso of The Veronicas has revealed she recently suffered an ectopic pregnancy, taking to her Instagram Stories to bring awareness to the “heartbreaking journey” faced by so many women and couples.

In a series of posts, Origliasso said she and her partner Logan Huffman were in “tears of happiness and excitement” when they discovered she’d fallen pregnant a month ago. The couple said they spent the following weeks going to bed “dreaming of what [their] family would be” and coming up with baby names – “all these things were reaffirming that something special was happening.”

Origliasso goes on to say that she booked a doctor’s appointment after experiencing irregular bleeding that got heavier as time went on. She was admitted into the Emergency Room to undergo blood tests and an ultrasound for a possible ectopic pregnancy, a term Origliasso had not heard before.

“It’s when the baby implants somewhere else, like the Fallopian tube instead of the uterus – the pregnancy is not viable and if it continues to grow would be life threatening to the mother,” explains Origliasso.

Origliasso was sent home with a “likely miscarriage” diagnosis, and a week later an ectopic pregnancy was confirmed, and Origliasso was admitted to hospital for immediate medical attention in order to prevent it from becoming critical.

Origliasso was told she was one of the “really unlucky ones” but says she can’t see that as truth.

“The miracle of life is a fragile dance and sure, there’s a little bit of luck involved and hard truths along the way, but it’s how we choose to keep growing through those broken branches, reaching towards the sun in our darkest hours, that proves to ourselves just how strong we really are,” she wrote.

Origliasso says she wanted to share her story in the hope it would bring more awareness and support to others who go through the same experience.

“You are not alone. Do not feel ashamed or blame yourself for things you can not control. Life is a perpetual journey of ups and downs, it’s not perfect. I am not perfect. I don’t want to pretend to be. My pregnancy journey was not perfect. And that is okay.”

“Inevitably, I know one day we will have a family. But it just wouldn’t feel right to share the good news in the future, without paying respect, love and bringing awareness to the heartbreaking journey so many woman [sic] and couples face everyday,” Origliasso added.

“If this story makes one less woman feel alone, then that to me is worth it. We must be kind to ourselves and eachother. Sometimes we have to crawl through the shadows to really appreciate what it is to stand in the sun.”
