Billie Eilish’s New Single ‘Therefore I Am’ Is A Huge Mood

Billie Eilish has delivered her third single for this year ‘Therefore I Am’ and it’s a huge mood. Where ‘everything i wanted’ and ‘my future’ showed off a softer side to Billie’s vocals, the latest takes it back to those bold vibes we heard on her debut release.

The chorus of the track sings, “I’m not your friend or anything / Damn, you think that you’re the man / I think, therefore, I am.”

The track also references press and articles about her, and fans reckon the track is about the body shaming Eilish has received. From articles about her baggy getups to paparazzi shots when she wears “normal clothes”.

The music video that comes with the banger, directed by Billie Eilish herself, could confirm that idea. It sees her run around in a closed shopping centre grabbing herself snacks like pretzels, donuts, and fries.

Either way, the song is 10/10 and so is the video. Catch it below.

Billie Eilish recently announced a global livestream concert, Where Do We Go? The Livestream. As well as that, we’ll be getting a Billie Eilish doco called The World’s A Little Blurry in February next year.

Holy Shit, Gruen Found The Guy Who Wrote The Cottee’s Jingle

As you may recall, just a few weeks ago Australian internet dwellers absolutely lost it after the team at ABC’s advertising-focused Gruen went on an “interstate odyssey” to track down the songwriter responsible for the iconic Bunnings Warehouse theme.

In peak wholesome content, Trevor Hilton spoke about how he composed the track before bashing it out on the very keyboard it was written on.

In the video, Hilton says it was “a nice sunny afternoon in 1995” when he wrote that beloved earworm of hardware chain legend. It absolutely bloody ruled – if you missed it, you can check it out here.

Now they’ve followed it up with an equally impressive feat– locating the man behind the classic “my dad picks the fruit” Cottee’s jingle that will be immediately familiar to most people born in the early 90s.

In a new video posted by the Gruen team, Peter Martin, the composer behind the tune, says its melody came to him quickly while he was crossing the Sydney harbour bridge.

Martin goes on to perform a couple lines of the song’s “early workings” on acoustic guitar while singing along.

It’s exactly as strangely heartwarming as you’d expect. Check it out below.

Archie Roach To Be Inducted Into The ARIA Hall Of Fame

Australian music icon Archie Roach has been announced as the 2020 inductee of the ARIA Hall Of Fame.

With this announcement made today (Tuesday, 10th November), 2020 has become even more of a special year for Roach, who is also celebrating the 30th anniversary of his seminal debut album Charcoal Lane – which picked up 2 ARIA Awards of its own back in 1991.

“It’s a great honour to be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame, whilst It’s been thirty years since I recorded my debut album Charcoal Lane, I do recall receiving two ARIA awards for that album,” Roach said in a press statement.

“Through the years writing and recording my songs as well as touring,  has helped me to heal and connect to audiences around the country. To be inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame is validation that no matter where you have come from and the struggles that you had to overcome through the years, that you can achieve great things if you set your mind and heart to it.

“Your achievements are only as good as the people around you and I have been blessed with a great team,” he continued.

ARIA Chief Executive Dan Rosen explained Roach’s importance to the Aussie music zeitgeist in a separate statement, saying, “He is an artist of enormous integrity, writing songs of deep personal honesty that resonated all around Australia.”

“He told stories that no one else was telling, and brought these issues to the forefront of the Australian psyche. His thirty-year career on-stage is enough for him to be a legend, but it is matched with his off-stage activism and his tireless work to give back to the communities around him. He’s a man who has made the world a better place, and he rightly takes his place as a giant of Australian music.”

The 2020 ARIA Awards ceremony will be held on Wednesday, 25th November, and Lime Cordiale, Tame Impala and Sampa The Great are leading the nominations.

Ocean Alley, Bernard Fanning To Headline Australia’s First Two Arena Concerts Since March

Australia’s first large-scale arena concerts since March are to take place from this month, with TEG Live and Live Nation announcing a pair of shows at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney under the banner of ‘Greatest Southern Nights’.

The first is set to take place Saturday, 28th November and will see Ocean Alley perform alongside Jack River, Ruby Fields and Jack Botts. Tickets for those are on sale now here via Ticketek.

“We’re absolutely stoked to be getting back on stage as part of Great Southern Nights. We’ve missed every part of touring – last year we spent every other day in a new city, so it’s exciting to see live music making a comeback in NSW,” commented Ocean Alley in a statement.

“The opportunity to headline Qudos Bank Arena in our hometown makes this show that extra bit more special for us, and we can’t wait to finally play our latest album Lonely Diamond in a live setting.”

The second of the shows will be headlined by Powderfinger’s Bernard Fanning alongside Matt Corby, supported by emerging songwriter Merci, Mercy. That’ll take place the following week, on Saturday, 5th December. Tickets for that show will go on sale tomorrow morning at 9am, also via Ticketek.

“I’m so happy to be part of the reopening of the live music scene in NSW,” commented Fanning.

“It’s a great opportunity to get people safely together again, but just as importantly, to give the music industry workers whose lives have been so upended by COVID, a chance to get back to doing what they do best.”

Both concerts will be held with COVID-Safe protocols in place. For one thing, they’ll be at a significantly reduced capacity – while the arena can usually hold around 21,000 punters, these shows will have an audience of just over 6,000.

The shows mark a return to large-scale live music events after a year that has devastated the country’s entertainment industry. While Australia has seen the successful return of crowds to major sporting events, these will be the first live music events to draw such an audience.

St. Vincent And Dave Grohl Cover Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Piggy’

St. Vincent has teamed up with Dave Grohl to deliver a cover of Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Piggy’. The Amazon-exclusive cover sees St. Vincent deliver brooding vocals with Grohl on drum duty.

Sharing the news, she said, “To celebrate [Nine Inch Nails’] induction to the [Rock & Roll Hall of Fame] this week, I’ve recorded my own #AmazonOriginal version of ‘Piggy’ with Dave Grohl(!!!) on drums.”

The cover comes as part of Amazon’s curation of covers to honour the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees. They have Real Estate covering The Doobie Brothers’ ‘What a Fool Believes’, The Kills on T. Rex’s ‘Cosmic Dancer’, and Eyelids on Depeche Mode’s ‘Enjoy the Silence’.

Plus, Savages’ Jehnny Beth will also take on Nine Inch Nails, covering ‘Closer’.

In a statement, St. Vincent said ‘Piggy’, “remains one of my favorite Nails songs to this day.”

“I am obsessed with the slinky tambourine that is just a little lazy in feel. And when I took this song apart to cover it, it took me a long time to really understand the immensity of the groove.

“It’s a dark, industrial reggae. Muscular, but never as distorted as you imagined it when you think of it in your head… They made a complicated thing seem easy and made big, bold sonic choices.”

Britney Spears Attempts To Have Father Removed From Conservatorship For A Second Time

Britney Spears is trying to get her father, Jamie Spears, removed from her conservatorship for a second time. After a failed attempt back in August, Spears has filed court papers again.

This time, her court-appointed lawyer, Samuel Ingham is saying that if her father retains his rights as her conservator, it will cause “Britney to suffer loss and injury.”

Billboard reports that the papers were filed with the court Tuesday, 3rd November. It came after the pop star learning the week prior, that her long term business manager, Lou Taylor from Tri-Star Sports and Entertainment Group had resigned with no notice.

She found out via a letter from her father’s lawyer that he had been replaced by Michael Kane of Miller Kaplan.

Britney Spears’ lawyer says she has been given no information surrounding the new business manager’s employment terms or compensation.

Ingham told the judge overseeing Spears’ case, Brenda Penny, that she no longer wants her father in the position of co-conservator.

The letter also reportedly saw her father’s legal team attempt to keep her estate account at City National Bank. Spears is asking for Bessemer Trust Company to be appointed to the role.

Ingham says the letter is a, “blatant attempt by James to try to retain full functional control of her assets, books and records in the face of Britney’s objections, TriStar’s resignation and the appointment of Bessemer Trust.”

The hearing is set for next Tuesday, 10th November.

Britney’s fans have led the charge in the #FreeBritney movement. They’ve been calling for the conservatorship to end and have been pretty sus on a lot of the pop star’s Instagram posts.

Spears recently shared a video to Instagram where she said, “So I know there have been a lot of comments and a lot of people saying a lot of different things about me.”

“I just want to let you guys know that I am fine.

“I’m the happiest I’ve ever been in my life. And I’m sending all of you guys a lot of prayers, wishes and a lot of of love.”

Polish Club Share Breezy New Single ‘Just Talking’, Announce Hometown Shows

Sydney duo Polish Club have returned with their first single for the year, a breezy, carefree bop titled ‘Just Talking’ that arrives in perfect time for a sun-drenched summer ahead.

The song’s lyrics see singer and guitarist David Novak make an impassioned plea to everyone for patience and understanding, asking listeners to lean away from the impulse to resort to hyperbole and hostility and calm down a little in an increasingly turbulent time.

“Why the hell am I angry, what are we even doing? Let’s just relax and speak to each other like normal people,” Novak says.

“I’d be a hell of a lot less stressed and things would probably be better for all if everyone just calmed down and listened to each other, myself included.”

‘Just Talking’ follows up a pair of releases from Polish Club last year – their album Iguana along with their nye_2020_megamix.exe EP. In September, the duo appeared on triple j’s Like a Version to deliver their take on Doja Cat’s hit ‘Say So’.

To coincide with the single, the band will perform a handful of hometown shows at the Factory Theatre in Marrickville for next month, supported by Johnny Hunter. Check out those dates – and listen to ‘Just Talking’ – below.

Watch 5 Seconds Of Summer’s Ashton Irwin’s Full ‘Superbloom’ Concert Film

5 Seconds of Summer drummer Ashton Irwin released his debut solo album last month, Superbloom. To celebrate, the songwriter shared a 50-minute-long live concert film recorded with his backing band in tow in Los Angeles.

The wide-spanning set saw Irwin perform a slew of favourites from the recently-released LP including ‘Skinny Skinny’, ‘Greyhound’, ‘Scar’ and ‘Drive’, along with a cover of Nirvana classic ‘Heart-Shaped Box’.

Arriving on October 23, Irwin recorded Superbloom in his LA home with producer and housemate Matt Pauling. The multi-instrumentalist cited a broad range of artists as influences on the album – from Foo Fighters and Silverchair to My Bloody Valentine.

Speaking to Music Feeds about the album last month, Irwin discussed the importance of truthfulness in art.

“I don’t want to be a part of a machine forever that releases perfect pop. Nothing is perfect about this, what I’m doing. Nothing. There’s nothing perfect about it. It’s just me as a human,” Irwin explained.

“You need a mission statement. You need to know why. And you need to be able to look people in the eyes and go, ‘Well, this is why I do music. This is why I’m an artist. This is why I care’. That could be about anything, but you got to have one. Otherwise, you’re just releasing shit that means nothing.”

The Weeknd, Yungblud And More Deliver Some Of This Year’s Best Halloween Costumes

All Hallows’ Eve has passed for another year, and with it brings a crop of standout costumes from musicians. This year saw some truly excellent contribution, from Lizzo as the fly that landed on Mike Pence during the Vice Presidential debate, to The Weeknd, who gave his best Nutty Professor impression.

Run the Jewels‘ El-P and wife Emily Panic embraced this year’s Sopranos resurgence with a truly excellent Tony and Carmela Soprano couples costume.

Accolades must also be given to Yungblud, who went the extra mile and delivered not one but two costumes, sharing photos of himself as both Wednesday Addams and Beetlejuice.

Cardi B and Offset also got in on the celebrations – Cardi giving off a killer Medusa while her husband suited up as The Mask. Halsey, meanwhile, recreated a Tim Burton classic, transforming into the Corpse Bride from the 2005 film of the same name.
